Suffering Leads to a Choice

“So then, those who suffer according to God’s will should commit themselves to their faithful Creator and continue to do good.”

1 Peter 4:19 NIV https://bible.com/bible/111/1pe.4.19.NIV

When we face difficulty for doing what we know is right, from God, we have a choice to make. Will we choose to fall deeper into alignment with Gods will and continue to do what is right or will we look for an alternate way, apart from God, to ease our pain?

The excuses are abundant and they can come roaring in. Our flesh and the evil one scream in harmony, ‘See I told you that trusting God wouldn’t work. So you have the right to walk away. This task you have committed to for God is too difficult. Not only can you walk away but you have needs, your flesh has needs, that God is not going to satisfy.’

Submission to Christ is the way of the cross. It requires a humbling and a death. I am to put my fleshly nature to death. And trust that Christ will raise me in glory.

“Put to death, therefore, whatever belongs to your earthly nature: sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desires and greed, which is idolatry. Because of these, the wrath of God is coming. You used to walk in these ways, in the life you once lived. But now you must also rid yourselves of all such things as these: anger, rage, malice, slander, and filthy language from your lips. Do not lie to each other, since you have taken off your old self with its practices and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge in the image of its Creator.”

Colossians 3:5-10 NIV. https://bible.com/bible/111/col.3.5-10.NIV

“Come near to God and he will come near to you. Wash your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded. Grieve, mourn and wail. Change your laughter to mourning and your joy to gloom. Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up.”

James 4:8-10 NIV. https://bible.com/bible/111/jas.4.8-10.NIV

What path will you choose to follow? One leads to life the other death.
